This is where I’ll place my top 10 everything (well, anything I can think of). I always thought this would be fun to do and for others to read. Remember that these are based on my opinion, thus it does not represent what the general audience feels. In fact, it will probably be far from it.
Top 10 Anime:
A list of my favourite anime to date, the top 5 ranks are absolute, after that, it’s pretty much “anything goes” (as of 2006). These series are the ones I’ve completed. The order is mostly based on my overall (mindless) enjoyment and how “addicting” the anime was. Please take note that I’m a girl, and one that enjoys shoujo-ish anime.
Other Mentionables: Denno Coil, Glass Mask (2005), LoveCom, Nodame Cantabile
10. Spiral
It probably had the most scattered plot (haha, sounds like statistics class…), which lead to a dangerously weak ending. However, the main characters Narumi and Hiyono really came through to me. The events and games that played through were enjoyable to watch. This was probably my first experience of a “mystery/detective” anime, and it was fun. The characters being attractively designed were also a good plus.

Very, very girly, but it turned out to be quite emotional and dramatic. This was surprising because of what they give you: a 12-year-old girl wanting to be an idol to follow her love. The story screams shoujo, and so does the character designs - I love the eyes. I think what makes me remember this series are the lovely songs. I absolutely love Eternal Snow, Love Chronicle, and Myself (the song, haha).
8. Hagane no Renkinjutsushi
The most intricate and complex story I’ve experienced. Each character is saturated with depth. The enemies have a background to justify for their actions. I truly felt that the plot was planned down to the specific. Al and Ed make a great pair, but they’re not the only ones you fall in love with. This is a very dramatic and suspensful series. FMA also had excellent animation. Spice it up with some great OP/ED/Insert music, and you have a highly recommended series.
Tied for 7. Elfen Lied and Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

Elfen Lied had everything. It incorporated every possible genre and did it well. So much blood and nudity though… still, it had depth and great imagry. Things were unpredictable, filled with emotion, and every aspect was close to perfect. It didn’t hold back in making me feel anxiety, horror, and despair. Loved how they implemented many ways of playing Lilium. No complaints for this series.
Haruhi no Yuutsu is purely MOE, haha. It had perky surprises and was down-right fun. The main character is one you’ll never see. Haruhi is dangerously eccentric, and charismatic which makes her strangely likeable. There are many unique elements in this series: the characters, (un)chronological order, humour. This also excelled in all art-forms; it had beautiful colour-ins, back drops, characters, eyes, and animation (the dancing!). A very fun series.
6. Princess Tutu
It’s unfortunate that a small number of people have watched or even noticed this gem. A majority of this overlook is from the girly title, a part of it could be the art. However, this anime possessed some great depth in the story and very much so in the main characters. It had elegant music (love it!), and silky animation. Though it is a magical girl series, Princess Tutu does not replicate from the generic mahou shoujo template. It’s mysterious, ominous philosophical, and beautiful in every way.

4. Hikaru no Go
An anime about a othello? You gotta be kidding! Well, for one it’s called Go, and they weren’t kidding. This anime circles around playing a board game, and they do it successfully. With some mystery and spiritual elements (and surprisingly, little comedic moments), Hikaru no Go surpassed my expectations. All I can give are praises for this anime. Though Hikaru can be somewhat annoying, you see his growth in the game of Go. Everything was extraordinary: art, animation, characters, SOUND. I love the OP and ED songs, I’m still listening to them to this day.

My first anime experiece, probably biased. Then again, this is a great series! They gave an… interesting premise and were able to dig deeper to give some depth, a lot of potential was given, but the ending was questionable. A very weak ending, however, the characters, the interaction, humour, were still appealing. I literally laughed out loud for this series, especially the first episode. What makes this stand above all else is that it was able to pull many emotions from me. I cried, laughed, and felt desparation at times. A funny exterior anime, with a deep and dark core.
